I have been able to track Don Carlos on the census records, beginning in 1900. I am excitedly awaiting the arrival of the 1940 census information as it will be the last one he is recorded on. If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer to index the 1940 census you can sign up by going to www.the1940census.net A blank document can be found at http://www.1940census.net/Img/1940_census_form_large.jpg . I signed up to index, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. That’s the nice thing about not currently being employed I have time to find joy in my hobbies.
He is shows on the 1900 census with his family, they lived in Pilot, Vermilion, Illinois. It appears that his father Buell was a prosperous farmer as they were able to hire 2 farm laborers and a servant. They also appear to be raising an “adopted daughter” although the family writing’s I have are that it was Cora Amanda Poulter, a foster daughter. And it also shows that Buell and Lizzie were married in 1885 and had 6 of 7 living children.
